About

I was born into the rhythms of Persian and Kurdish music long before I ever imagined music would become my life’s work. My first lessons came from my uncle, Saeed Abbasi, and over the years I continued my training with masters such as Bahman Rajabi and Pandit Nayan Ghosh, studying the language of rhythm through the Tombak, Kurdish Daf, and Tabla.

For more than two decades, India has been my second home. What first brought me here was curiosity — and what kept me here was the endless depth of Hindustani classical music. Over the years, alongside performing and composing, I immersed myself in the study of Indian music academically, eventually completing a PhD in Hindustani Classical Music at the University of Delhi. My research and teaching have taken me into classrooms, lecture halls, rehearsal spaces, and conversations across India and Iran, exploring not only music traditions, but also the ways music can heal, connect, and transform people.

My music lives somewhere between traditions. Persian and Hindustani classical music remain at the heart of what I do, but I have always been interested in what happens when cultures truly listen to one another. That curiosity led me to co-found the Viuna Music Ensemble and later create projects such as the West East Music Ensemble (W.E.M.E.), Mehr Ban Ensemble, and the Sina Fakhroddin Collective — each one bringing together musicians from different backgrounds to create new conversations through sound. Jazz, folk traditions, improvisation, and classical forms often meet naturally within these collaborations.

Alongside my artistic work, I founded Honar Productions in New Delhi — a platform dedicated to cross-cultural artistic collaborations, festivals, and performances that bring artists from different parts of the world into meaningful dialogue.

Over the years I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with artists such as Hansraj Hans, Abida Parveen, and Hamid Motebassem, among many others, and performing across Asia, Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.

I continue to perform internationally as a percussionist and composer, and I remain available for concerts, collaborations, workshops, and private or group lessons in Tombak, Daf, and Middle Eastern percussion traditions.
